Aura Detergent Leans on Experience to Maximize Clean for Owners
Today, working side by side, the Sal and John Coppola, (father and son) bring more than 50 years of combined experience in detergent formulation: a family legacy focused on trusted, high-quality, proudly made-in-the-USA products. This is their story.
Company History & Background
More than 30 years ago, Sal Coppola blended lab-grade chemistry with family-grade reliability to create Aura Detergent. And he didn’t do it alone. His wife, Juliet, helped start and run the business from day one, keeping operations and customers on track while Sal focused on formulation. Inspired by his parents’ passion, their son John followed in their footsteps and joined the business as a chemist. Today, working side by side, the father and son bring more than 50 years of combined experience in detergent formulation: a family legacy focused on trusted, high-quality, proudly made-in-the-USA products.
Aura Detergent supports approximately 7,000 laundromat customers, provides next-day local delivery across the Tri-State area and ships nationwide via common carriers.

Q&A with Aura Detergent
What’s the most pronounced trend you’re seeing right now?
Honestly, owners want chemistry that does more with less — strong cleaning at a lower dose that keeps machines happy and customers happier. We’re also seeing big growth from Airbnb and short term rentals who need quick-turn linens that look and smell great every time.
What are you most excited about going forward?
Continuing to push high-quality, small-dosage chemistry that saves owners on freight and storage — and rolling out super-simple reordering so no one discovers they’re out of product on a Saturday afternoon.
From a business perspective, what concerns you most?
Supply chain hiccups can still happen, like raw materials, freight, you name it. Tariffs and overseas competitors can also distort pricing. We manufacture in the USA, dual-source key inputs, keep safety stock, and compete on reliable quality so laundromats aren’t left scrambling. It’s not glamorous, but reliability wins.
Where is your niche headed?
Toward customizable, dependable chemistry paired with hands-on support — dose guidance, stain troubleshooting, and delivery that shows up when we say it will. That combination saves owners time and protects margins.
What’s the biggest reason for laundromat owners to be optimistic?
Demand keeps rising for convenient, high-quality laundry. Shops that add wash-dry-fold, pickup/delivery, and short-term rental linen programs are seeing repeat business and better reviews.
What are the keys to successful laundromat ownership today?
“Aura Detergent was built on integrity and innovation. Thirty years later, those values still drive every batch we make and every truck we load.”
— John Coppola, President
